The trip so far

Oklahoma is surprisingly empty. I'm not sure if that's because it's the Cherokee nation or for some other reason. One thing we noticed driving through Missouri was that there were a pile of Adult Superstores on the Interstate. Is there some sort of prohibition against them in OK?

We're just flipping through various news channels, and it looks like there's flooding through Illinois. We've passed through that area in just enough time it seems. We did hit rain that was hard enough that we pulled over twice yesterday.

Next stop: Somewhere in Texas, probably.

Jeff,

Ya, the road porn throughout Missouri and Wisconsin is insane. You should have stopped by Chicago and looked me up, although the past couple of days have been crazy. They just announced last night the community I live in was actually hit by a tornado (EF1 - the smallest kind) and the flooding is out of this world here. I live on a hill so we aren't flooded, but our area received a good bit of wind damage from the storms.

Enjoy your trip and drive safe!

I believe OK does have a ban on the sale of porn. I remember years back when my friend lived there, he said he had to mail-order it from out of state. Also had to go to a special store to buy beer/wine/liquor, and never on Sunday. It's a whole different way of life.

Oklahoma isn't really as empty as you think; I-44 just happens to avoid everything but Tulsa, OKC, and Lawton. All the towns along that stretch are on US 69 and OK 66.

... You seem to be taking the long way around.. last I knew, I-80 went straight through the midwest and dumped you out in San Francisco.

I mean, road trips are cool.. but, ... Texas? /TEXAS/? Why?

i know many many people in texas. austin would be a good place for ya'll to stop through if you're doing any stopping through. i have UU family in the dallas area and in san antonio too, should you want to spend time in either of those cities.
OK is a spread out place, i know some good folks there too. but yeah, no porn, no tattooing (i think they may have lightened up on piercings, but that could just be hearsay), and funky liquor laws. the joke is that texas doesn't fall into the gulf of mexico because *oklahoma sucks*.

Just read your blog since last Monday. You are indeed meandering your way along. Glad you missed the flooding in Illinois and great that you've been able to connect with friends! Sounds like you're experiencing a truly cross-cultural trip! Enjoy!
