Second day in Oldenburg
Sep. 22nd, 2004 06:05 pmWow, second day in Oldenburg and having a fabulous time! Not alot of hacking today, mostly meeting people, saying hi, and trying to figure out what I'd like to work on when I'm here. So far just hppa on 2.6, and getting around to setting my scripts to autoupdate the packages on the nightly builds. I'm sure something else will come up. I've heard that folks working on graphical d-i might be popping in, so it might be fun to see if I can help out on that.
I haven't taken any pictures yet (I need to buy film), but I think I've sorted out my bank machine 'issues'. I've discovered that the German word I need is 'Vegane', and as unknown as 'végétalien' and 'vegan' is elsewhere. Andreas did find a vegan restaurant, though, and Joey has been fabulous with the snacks.
Germany so far is incredibly pretty, and reminds me alot of Vancouver. Many green spaces, rain, chilly weather, people wandering around in gortex rain slicks. The town of Oldenburg isn't that large, but still has a reasonable shopping centre. The cellular connections here are solid, trains and busses run on time, and all sorts of other pleasantness. Now if only I could understand what people around me were saying...
