Spent more time exploring 2.6 integration in d-i today. A few conversations with Joey and Colin, and I want to redo how the config structure is invoked. It's currently broken down into a few predefined layers, and I'd like to just make it properly recursive. This will help folks like ppc which has to do some evil magic to bend the system to meet their needs. Adding an extra layer of kernel versions becomes trivial and makes it so that moving from 2.6 to 2.8 or whatever will be trivial. Another side effect of this is that it removes another Linuxism from the installer, which will be important if I ever get off my ass and do d-i for the Hurd.

I also got access to a ppc64 (Thanks to Leigh Brown!) box today, and started looking at that. This leads me to the question of the debian-glibc repository and that cvs sucks alot. Arch seems to be tuned to needs I don't have, and I enjoy svn alot (although gotom and pb_ both offered concerns about repositories eating themselves). Then Alioth went down again. I remember mentioning when Alioth was proposed that it was far too much work for us. I wish that we got along better with the FSF. The savannah folks are doing a good job again and we'd do far better helping them with admin time and sharing the load than doing the same job twice. (Perhaps I will be kicked out of both GNU *and* Debian for this comment. Beat that Thomas!)

Marcus and Annika will be here tomorrow, it'll be nice to see them again. Michael Koch will also be here tomorrow. Hurd and Classpath in the same day, how evil. Need to do shopping tomorrow for presents and such.
