Well no I am not a qualified mid-wife - yet. I'd very much like to be one day though.
I considered attempting an unassisted birth myself (i.e. playing mid-wife to myself with hubby) after a terrible and tramatic first experience in a hospital, but decided that could be risky. So we opted for private mid-wfe assisted births. I have as a result unofficially studied up a huge amount on it. I absolutely loved the mid-wife we used too, she was fantastic and very calming and unobtrusive - allowing us to have our own experience. I supported my sister through her labour as her doula last year. Which I found very rewarding.
When I am done with IT it is definately an area I would like to move into.
